David: I recently (last Monday, I think) posted a message entitled Weird Scanning Artifacts (or something similar) that I would be grateful if you would go back and have a look at to see if my problem is similar to yours. What I have learned since then is that the problem (my version of it anyway) relates directly to (Tri-X) film grain. That is, if I use the Nikon Scan GEM utility (which significantly alters the appearance of grain) the ultimate banding is greatly reduced. However, what GEM does to Tri-X grain is genuinely hideous. Are you using Tri-X? If you're having a similar problem with a different film, I'd like to hear about it. Thanks. Many scans were made from 4x5 b&w negs, and the slight banding only appears in certain density areas in the smooth cloudy skys. There is no banding on 90% of the scans. > Any suggestions. > I'm printing on a 7600 UC ink, IP 5.5 sommerset velvet. > > Thanks > David Aschkenas
