Subject: [Digital BW] MODERATOR REQUESTS & REMINDERS

To All Group Members,

I would ask that people please remember that this is a forum dedicated to
digital B&W printing. What I see too often are long threads that have little
or absolutely nothing to do with this topic. If you clutter up the forum
with irrelevant material then the value of this group is greatly diminished.

So before you click on "Send" please ask yourself if what you are about to
post is on topic of not.

I realize people can get very interested in things like French
photographers, exposure methods in digital cameras, film vs. digital, color
vs. B&W. While I don't think a couple of posts off topic are a big deal
please take these discussions off list if you want to continue them at
length. You can even easily create a small temporary Yahoo Group of your own
to discuss things like this. This has been done before.

A second and equally large problem are threads that are argumentative in
nature regardless of the topic. It should be obvious to everyone that we are
not going to all agree on how to do just about anything. These threads sink
to the point where there is nothing going on except a series of "I'm right,
you're wrong." posts. This obviously this fills up the archive with
worthless and/or redundant messages. Worse these exchanges usually become
hostile and lead to flames which are in violation of the group policy.
Remember, you do not have to respond to remarks you feel are controversial
nor you do have to have the last word.

I really expect the users to moderate this type of thing themselves. If some
members can't, I may ask that specific threads be ended and I would greatly
appreciate it if people would comply. If they don't, then I seem to have no
choice but to be heavy handed and do unpleasant things like dropping people
from the group or turning off their ability to post. Please don't persist to
the point where I feel compelled to take such actions.

As a reminder I would ask that everyone re-read the key group guidelines
below.

Thank you,
Martin Wesley

"Some guidelines on using this forum:

This is an unmoderated forum and no one is checking messages before
they are posted. It is expected that the members of the forum
moderate the forum and themselves. Please stay on topics relating to
making monochrome prints using digital devices and techniques.

If you have not done so already, please read the Yahoo! Groups Terms
of Service These cover key issues regarding posting on this forum and
other Yahoo locations.

Moderation of the forum by the users includes an expectation of basic
manners and good taste. While digital B&W printing would seem like a
very mild topic to most, those of us with experience know that people
can become very impassioned over their art, ideas, and choice of
materials. Open and candid discussion is encouraged. However,
courtesy must prevail and it is expected that exchanges should not
deteriorate into personal insults, harassment, etc. If they should,
intervention will be taken as
necessary.

No SPAM please. Spamming will be grounds for being barred from the
forum."
