Veracity...

2001-10-10 by lyonscox@mindspring.com

"Veracity: The quality or character of speaking the truth; truthful
disposition; truthfulness, honesty, trustworthiness", from the Oxford
English Dictionar

Ok, that's from Christopher Burketts page. I'm probably doing
something illegal by copying it. To his credit, there is a
disclaimer at the bottom, perhaps it should have been at the top.

None-the-less the concept of purity or honesty is surely a modern
dilemma due to our romantic desire to experience.

Photography, since Oscar Rejlander exhibited his 'first combination
print in 1855,' has been an open field just like the other arts to
representation of ideals, morals and debauchery. When Man Ray
brought the sabattier effect (originally done in 1862) to the
forefront of the art front he pushed the door open wider to make
photography adaptabable to interpreting modern concepts.

Honesty, what is art & the medium of choice come from the individual
who creates it - a reflection of their intent.

Three of my favorite quotes Frederick Sommer left me with.
"Do no less well than you can do each day"
"Show the camera what is to be seen and it will show you what it
looks like."
"Enthusiasm is the duty of understanding, before the night fatal to
remembrance.

Art is an internal motivation...find your own whether it's
techinically based or emotionally driven...then find your audience
afterwards. From the strength of your own passion others will feel
the value you have given to the object.

In truth, I'm too young & without experience to say anything with
authority...that's where enthusiasm comes in.
