The purpose of a mat is to keep the glass from touching the surface of the print. If there is a protective coating of the print and there is no glass no mat is necessary: the print can be displayed like an oil painting. One way would be to mount the print on an aluminum sheet, or on foam core. --Mitch/Bangkok
