Digital BW, The Print

I'm trying hard to assimilate the info on this forum, but its a steep 
learning curve.  Could someone suggest a starting point for hands on 
experimentation.  I have an Epson 1280 and would like to try 
some "Black Only" printing.
Where can I purchase appropriate black cart. for this (Eboni?, other?)
Are "actions" necessary (curves) when printing(I have PSCS), if so 
where available?
I generally print on Epson Enhanced Mat paper.
What is the suggested basic workflow?
