You unconditionally OWN the copyright to all the images you created. Upon registration with the Copyright Office you just gain proof of your copyright. Without registration if your copyright is abused by anyone the case may not go to court since it's not open-and-shut anymore, and no lawyer will take it. With the registration the perpetrator will settle with you before you know it. But again, you own the copyright from the moment the image has been created.
