It's up to you how often you register the works, but if you register as of 01.01.2004 something shot in the beginning of the 2003 you are covered only from the 10.01.2003 against any infringement. If it happened earlier you are on your own. Most of the professionals from ASMP with whom I keep in touch register every 2 months (just in case they omit something). Do not even ask how often I register - not often enough let's say. It's easier (at least to me) if you register unpublished works before they get published. If it get's into the routine nothing unregistered has a chance of getting published. Say, you do the job of 50 images. They are paid by the client, so $30 for registering just them immediately is not a strain - it gives a peace of mind. The date of your filing is the date from which you are covered anyway.
