Occasionally, I get a request for the use of photographs in a book or magazine. I
previously loaned prints for that purpose. However, I have completely switched from
the analog silver darkroom ( so hopelessly twentieth century!) to carbon pigment (in
my case piezography). This means that I'd need to loan ink jet prints or a file.

I prefer to NOT loan ink jet prints, since I'm unsure how well one would scan (and I
wouldn't be scanning it, the offset lithographer would). Anyone have experience here?

This leaves loaning a file. Given the current state of digital printing, one can make a
pretty good ink jet print from a high resolution file suitable for offset printing. (I
know I can.) Since my current work IS digital ink jet prints, rather than the old
fashioned silver analog prints, I'm VERY sensitive to this.

Anyone have experience writing a contract covering my concerns? Here's a clause I'm
working with, but I'm not sure how reasonable it is. (The usual stuff about the
copyright remaining with me would be elsewhere in the contract.)

6. The Photographer will deliver the Work as a digital file. This file will be suitable for
printing on an offset press. As the delivered file would also be very suitable for
printing on an ink jet printer, Publisher agrees to safeguard that file and keep it from
access by anyone who does not have a legitimate interest in the production of the
book. Publisher agrees to NOT make copies of the file, including backup copies, and
agrees to ensure that copies of the file are NOT made by any person in the employ of
the Publisher, or anyone else who may have access to Publisher's files. Publisher also
agrees to delete the file loaned by the Photographer at the completion of the print
run of the first printing of the Book. At that time the Publisher will not have any files
of the Work, except those files corresponding to the printing plates of the first
printing of the book.

Anyone know of a list more appropriate for this topic?
