I shoot Portra B&W at 320. I can't speak to digital versus film quality, but I find I much prefer manual cameras. My local lab can develop a roll of C41 very reasonably and throw in a 4X6 index print for an additional dollar. The index print is good enough to let me see what I want to scan.
