At this moment I'm trying to use Scribus as a base to print B&W from on a Suse system. Not an image editor but a DTP program like Ventura etc. QTR is recognised as a driver and it looks like you get better placement tools than on the simple image editors, viewers like XPP. Photopaint probably delivers more pain on the newer distributions and with CUPS. I haven't tried that yet but seen some messages on the web that indicate those problems. Another possibility would be Cameleo Light as is incorporated in the Caldera Open Linux distribution. Not the faintest idea whether that would work with QTR. But it has 16 bits and a kind of ICC colourmanagement if colour printing is also needed. It is related to the expensive RIP etc solutions on www.caldera.fr Ernst ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ernst Dinkla" <E.Dinkla@...> To: <DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Friday, February 20, 2004 3:13 PM Subject: [Digital BW] QTR + Photopaint Will the old Coreldraw's port of Photopaint 9 still run on the new Linux distributions ? Isn't that an acceptable image editor that will allow QTR + Gimp-print as its output driver without the Gimp-print plug-in interfering ? It is not at Photoshop level and probably even not at GIMP level in 8 bits/RGB but there are some nice features that the GIMP doesn't have including 16 bit, CMYK etc. As I understand it, it isn't a full port but uses components of Wine for some emulation so it will not be fast. Colour management will not be supported I guess as that relied on the Microsoft colour engine. That's not a big loss as that is even flaky on Windows. There are some sites where it can be downloaded. I think Corel did make it free as it was distributed on magazine CD-ROM's as well. Ernst ------------------------ Yahoo!
