Re: [Digital BW] Hawk Mountain papers; 7600 decisions

Yes, both these papers (Merlin Smooth and Condor BW) have OBAs in the coatings. Not in the base paper.

We have two papers currently which are entirely OBA free - Nighthawk (500 GSM) and Osprey Natural (250 GSM).

We will make Condor Natural (300 GSM) and Kestrel Natural (310 GSM textured) soon.

I just received a sample packet of the two Hawk Mountain papers that CJ has
recommended for BO printing -- Merlin and Condor BW. Both are 100 percent
cotton. Does anyone know if either is treated with OBAs? The Condor BW, in
particular, looks like it might be treated with OBAs.

I've been running a combination of inks, drivers and papers through my 2200
this evening, having a last look at various approaches before filling my 7600
with ink tomorrow. One combination that I had discounted but which really
impressed me was the Epson UC inks, photo K, and QTR printing onto Oriental FB
gloss photo paper. I thought the results would be terrible because the
unprinted surface looks far too glossy for my tastes. But once the ink is laid on
the surface, it gives a really impressive image, deep deep blacks, and the
bronzing can be fixed with PremierArt.

I'm going to sleep on all of this, but as I head off to bed tonight I am
leaning toward the UCs, photo K and QTR for my 7600, with semigloss or semimatte
as the leading paper candidates. But who knows what the morning will bring?
:-)
