Digital BW, The Print

Has anyone used this set of filters with success?  A friend of mine has it and I was able to 
try it for just a short while.  The range of Edge effects in particular is quite appealing but I 
was surprised to see that they are very very low resolution.  That is to say, if I try to do an 
edge effect for an A3 print then the effect is a bunch of squares like a low res jpeg when 
viewed even at 50%.  I guess this can then be blurred or something but then the 
underlying image is blurred also which is by no means ideal.    Was I doing something 
wrong or is this as good as this thing gets?
