spotting

You can copy small sections of the print to be spotted and print them
on a small piece of glossy paper and use a brush to pick the exact
shade without having to mix different shades to get what you need.

If you use carts just make a print of a step-wedge on glossy paper or
acetate. The ink will bead up. Use the various tones of ink with
spotting brushes. The swatch can be used repeatedly by wetting the
brush.
