Re: Colin: USB control of Epson (and other) printers [Digital BW] Digest Number 2189

Thanks, I will keep the printers on USB1.1 as I have the printing set
to lock the PC until the spool is written and printing started, after
which I regain control of the PC(correction - no I never have control
of my PC... butsometimes it allows me access?!). I can't remember how
I did this.

The way control that (in Windows) is to use the spool settings under details in the printer driver dialog box. If you set it to print directly to the printer, the printing will take precedence over everything else on your computer. You can set it to start printing after either the first or last page is spooled. I use the first page as it ultimately ends up with the quickest print on multi-page printouts. You also get to select a printing protocol, though I recommend simply clicking the default button and going from there.
I use a 2200 that was set up by someone else so I don't know the settings. I'll check it out next week when I am at that location again.

It is not uncommon to have the single computer driving 4-6 printers using different images and editing programs, so there seems no reason to tie the computer up printing single images.

We aren't printing fine art, but when you are head-to-head with an HP Rep and a Canon Rep who are both looking for the tiniest flaw to invalidate your presentation and get the sale, quality definitely counts.
