Digital BW, The Print

I am doing mainly (mf&4x5") B&W printing on Mac but want to set-up a new
workstation based on a PC (from riches to rags?) and need an extra scanner.
A flatbed, for budget reasons and I am given  a choice between a new Epson
4870 or a fairly new 1680Pro at+/- the same price (500€).Plus, the 1680Pro
needs a SCSI card for the PC i.e. an extra 100 to 150€. Suggestions? Advise?
