vpat8, (hope that isn't your real name) sounds like you have USB communication errors. I don't think there are any new epson driver updates for OSX, but you might try using a different USB port on your powerbook. You aren't using a USB hub are you? I use a PB, OSX.3, 768Mb RAM, and PS at 100% memory. Don't use your external as a scratch disk, that'll really slow things down. Archive some stuff off your hard disk onto the external instead.
