Digital BW, The Print

I am brand new to digital black and white printing. I have been using 
an epson 1280 right out of the box with epson glossy photo paper. 
Here is the problem, all of my prints have this hideous purple cast 
to them. It would be more accurate to call them "purple and white" 
prints. I am majorly disappointed with the prints. Any suggestions 
for a beginner.
