Thanks Roger!  Good information.  I now have some options.  I'd like 
to get Linux to recognize a new vfat partitions which I'll create 
with Partition Magic.  Failing that I could go the flash memory 
route.  I guess I could also burn a CD in XP and open it in Linux.  
I'll have to play around.
