I'm not sure if this is responsive to your question, but the old Piezo
driver for the 1160 produced a dmax that was lower than the Epson driver and
modern RIPs can achieve.  Assuming your FS ink is new and using Eboni K, the
MIS ink in and of itself is very close to the Epson Matte K in density.  Try
using the Epson driver to just print a small 100% black patch and see what
it looks like.

I'm using MIS FS on a 1160 with the Piezography driver. Apart from 
microbanding which I frequently have trouble with using the 
Piezography driver, what I do not like when comparing the prints to 
the ones I get from the 2100 using ImagePrint 5.6 is the intensity 
of black. Are the new inks _visibly_ better (I know the dmax is 
increased)?
If yes, do I need a new CIS or can I just replace the bottles and 
wait for some weeks printing with mixed inks?
