Just thought I'd let you all know that Paul Roark has written some great curves for using wtih the MIS Variable Mix inks on the Epson 1200. I'm working on a Mac. The "nc" (neutral to slightly cool) and "mw" curves are already excellent, they result in almost dead on matches for printing 21 step grayscales compared to reference 21 step grayscales Paul sent me that he had printed on his 1160. Test images I've printed with these curves look beautiful, definitely exhibition quality. There are no dots and no banding; smooth tonal transitions throughout. I've tried them on EAM and Eclipse, with great results on both (no tranfer function curve necessary for Eclipse). We're still working on the "c" (cool) and "w" (warm) curves, but I'm confident Paul will have them in good working order soon. I expect he'll also be tweaking the "nc" and "mw" curves a bit more, but they're already producing fine prints. For anyone looking to get into black and white desktop printing at a very reasonable cost and being able to produce both warm and cool toned prints (like me), this is a great option.
