Based on an uninterrupted printing session starting with a freshly installed black/gray (#59) cartridge, here are some numbers for ink and paper consumption and cost: Context: HP Premium Plus Matte paper, image size 6" x 9" (54 sq. in.) INK: The "low ink" warning came up after 24 prints (1300 sq. in.). I continued printing with the same cartridge, and obtained eleven (11) more complete prints (600 sq. in.) before the cartridge suddenly and obviously ran out of ink in the middle of the twelfth. At a retail cost of $26.35 (incl. sales tax) per cartridge, ink costs are therefore: - $0.75 per print - $0.01 (1.4 cents) per square inch. PAPER: At a retail cost of $18.66 (incl. sales tax) for a box of 20, paper costs are: - $0.93 per print. Total cost for each 8-1/2 x 11" print on HP Premium Plus Matte with a 6x9" image size is therefore: $1.68. Cartridge life will obviously vary based on the darkness of a particular image. Note in particular that the cartridge continued to perform flawlessly for almost 50% more prints than suggested by the "low ink" message. -- Nick NICHOLAS HARTMANN Technical and scientific translator (414) 271-4890 nh@... http://www.nhartmann.com
