Epson 2100 BO printing --> mysterious dot patterns ?

2004-05-31 by grethabakker

Group,

Just to let you know:
As an BO printer (2100+ MK and Eboni) on art paper who was evaluating
his prints, I noticed a slight irregularity in the lighter grey areas
(40% and less). The longer I looked, the more irritated I become.
I did some testing with printing a step wedge, and learned that using
the Epson watercolor-radiant profile (that was my default) caused
irregulair and ugly dot patterns in the lighter areas.
When I use the EEM profile, I get smooth dot patterns. I now switched
to EEM profile after some dot gain tweaking.

But then I read the memo of Clayton in which he mentioned "tiny
double dots" when printing with thick paper through the back feed.
I realy want to understand this effect so I can reproduce it. Is it
profile based ?
Because with my 1290 I also experianced this effect, but never knew
where it came from and assumed that it was a temporarely failure of
the printhead. I am that curious, because I liked this dot pattern
because of its smoothness in the lighter areas.

Another question: I have found some additional Epson paper profiles
on the australian Epson site which are not standard installed (?)
with my 2100 software. Where do I have to place them so my printer
software will find it ?
