I have finally succeeded in using the curves to "correct" my images to a selected tone. First I had to realize that there were UT2 curves as distinguished from UT curves. That behind me, I have learned the following: In either program your image has to be in 24 bit format. Picture Window, fortunately, doesn't allow you to use "curves" otherwise. Unfortunately Paint Shop requires that you make the conversion - the program will appear to be using the selected curve properly even in 8 bit mode, but you will know you've made a mistake as soon as you see the "converted" image on the screen. That having been said, there appear to be some differences in the ways in which a converted psp file will print in PSP vs a converted tif file in Picture Window. Should you wish to save a file in Paint Shop, and use it in Picture Window, you will have to save it in tif format; PW will not open a PSP file. Anyone having trouble trying to use PSP with the Roark curves should contact me; I'd be glad to help. And, thanks to Paul for helping steer me in the right direction with great tolerance.
