Good question. I recall reading something about the forum policy on
this, maybe in the user guidelines back when I first joined, can't
remember for sure. But I think it had something to do with being
directly related to BW printing, obvious advertising intent and so on,
and something about asking if you aren't sure. I remember reading
several times when someone from an ink or paper company wanted to
announce a new product they first stated that they had asked
permission from the group moderator. Their announcements were brief
and to the point, basically announcing the release of a new product
and giving a link to their site, and that was it. Basically it was
letting readers know it existed, and did not contain any kind of
pitch, special deals, act now before it's too late, etc.

So there is a history of such posts here, and there is a certain
discreet flavor about them that is familiar to regular readers and is
not offensive. So when one comes along that is obviously a blatant
advertisement that has nothing to do with BW digi printing, it stands
out like a sore thumb.

We are all so innundated with ad pitches every waking moment that it
is easy to take offense when this sanctuary, arguably one of the
better on-line places to hang out, is invaded by such. It was obvious
that, while the tours guy didn't see himself as his definition of a
spammer, he saw a photography forum and figured it was a good place to
place an ad. Bad decision. He got jumped on for it, and while it may
have been a harsh response, the troops were defending the homeland
aginst terrorists (so to speak <g>).

Regards,
Clayton
