Digital BW, The Print

Hi Jeff,

I have been using Hahnemuhle P Rag since it became available several years ago. 
Hahnemhhle has been making rag art papers for centuries and they only use the finest 
materials and have an excellent reputation. No, I have not seen anything on PR yellow and 
do not expect to in my life time. If I did I wouldn't be using this media and selling it to my 
most important clients. If you really have a paranoia about pollution effecting your prints 
many decades down the line ( or centuries) I would spray them with the Premier Art  UV 
spray. Some people have stated that they think this spray reduceds the d-max  a little. I 
haven't seen it personally in my color or Lyson monochrome work. I love this spray and 
use it not only as a sealant aganst contaminants and humidity in the air but also to protect 
aganst skuffing, flaking, and scratching.


Optical brighteners are not new. In fact I imagine most if not all of the silver print masters 
that you have respected throughout the years used fiber papers with optical brighteners. 
Most all commercial  fiber papers since the 50's at least used them, such as Agfa, Ilford, 
Kodak, Oriental, etc, etc.

I wouldn't worry about P Rag. Behind glass ( or sprayed) even the cheap Epson Enhanced 
Matte has good permanence ratings.

Uh, Oh, I've got to go... that was Fed-Ex delivering a  roll of Photo Rag, no joke...
