Cleavis,

USB is a good way to go. But for specific advice, you should also state what 
hardware and platform you are on.

Not really. You proof perhaps on cheaper paper, but always on the same 
printer, otherwise you may introduce unexpected variables.

It's a matter of personal finances. My thinking is that for the $150 or so in cost 
difference it's worth getting the wider desktop models. Others may not find it 
worthwhile. Bigger isn't always better as we all know - don't we? ...
