My intuition is that the most promising step to try below 240 scanner samples per printed inch is 180 "spi". If that takes too much RAM or something, I'd try 144 and then 120. But, at least with one of the best digital cameras, I think you might get away with 90 samples per printed inch for some very large images. Printing at 720 or 1440 dpi I assume. Each of those dpi's is a whole number multiple of all these spi's, and each of these spi's is divisible by three. But I don't know that either spec matters, much less that both do, jointly. -- Sam
