I agree. Ray isn't nearly as widely known as he should be based on his
talent. His book "Exploratins" is one of my all-time favorite photography
books for its combination of photographs and text written by Ray himself.
The chapter on his thought process while photographing under the LA freeways
is alone worth the price of the book. As good as the book is, it omits
entirely two of his best areas of work, his flower photographs (which, IMHO,
make Maplethorpe's look like snapshots) and his street portraits.
