Re: Nikon 9000 vs. Minolta Multipro for B/W negative scanning?

2004-08-24 by wooismyid

I use Scanhancer with my Multi Pro and have been pretty happy with it. The difference is
not great but for the extra minimal cost I think it's worth the investment. I scan 16-bit
grayscale as black-and-white positive. The preview histogram comes back heavily
weighted to the shadows, so you must increase the exposure between 1.5 to 2 in the
Dimage Scan Utility before the final scan.

I understand that many people have been disappointed with the noise in color scans with
the Multipro, but I have not extensively tested this. 90% of my scans are with black-and-
white negatives. Although people perceive a great difference in quality of these scanners
with color work, it's my opinion that the quality of black and white scans depends largely
on the skill and knowledge of the scanner operator.
