Hi all - I'm about to kick my art publishing business into a higher gear. I am currently printing 2,000 cards per month using my 4 Epson 890s. I anticipate doing 20,000 cards per month when I go from my current 80 retailers to over 600 retail locations. Cards are A7 size folded so the card stock is 10"x7" (cut grain short), 80# cover stock. I print at 720 dpi, Black Only, using a CIS. It takes about 2.5 minutes per card. The anticipated volume would just reduce these little desktop machines into dust in no time. So I don't think scaling up the operation by adding 890s (if they were even available) is the right way to go. So, does anyone have suggestions for the type of press or equipment manufacturer I should look at? I'm assuming such a digital press would take full size sheets of 80# cover, so I'd also have to get paper cutting/slitting equipment. That's okay - the place I get the stock cut now just doesn't care (as much as I do) about the quality of their work. A B&W or DuoTone press would be okay to start, but eventually I'll want to do color also if my sales staff adds other artists to the talent mix. Thanks for any suggestions.
