It was always my understanding that the paper driver setting influenced the amount ink that was laid down, especially in the low end. This is because PREMIUM rc type papers have the ink on the surface where matte and rag papers have more absorption. But like he said, you could easily adjust this in curves by moving up the bottom shadow ( toe ) of the curve if necessary.
