What's the middle slot in the back of the 2100 for?

What's the middle slot in the back of the 2100 for?  The top one is 
the sheet feeder, the bottom one goes straight through for heavier 
papers.  What's the one in the middle with the movable guide for?  I 
can't find a reference to this in the Epson guide.
