I've been loaned a 1270 to see if the MIS UT-FS inks will work well in it. They do. So, the 1270, 1280, 1290, and 2000P, all of which take the same cartridges (with the 2000P having its own chip), will all have the MIS UT-FS Neutral and Warm inks available in pre-loaded cartridges. The ink order is going to be what I call CMCMY. It is not the Cone or old MIS hextone FS ink order. (I assume the older MIS FS or Piezo inks would work similarly with this ink order on matte papers.) I've found that simple grayscale curves allow these printers to print very well with this ink arrangement. Because the gray inks are glossy compatible, these printers will be able to make outstanding glossy prints when Photo black is installed, and very good glossy prints even when Eboni is installed and special RGB curves are used. The idea (i.e., my hope) is to have inksets that are easy enough to control that most people should be able to modify the curves I'll make to profile any paper just based on visual comparison to a 21-step test strip that is printed with an existing curve on one of the supported papers. All people will need to do is move existing points on a single curve up or down as needed. The only software that will be needed is Photoshop or Picture Window (cheap). (I doubt there would be enough volume to justify pre-loading of 1200 cartridges. However, I have a draft 1200 FS curve for EEM that apparently works well. 1200 owners will probably have to hand-load their own carts, however, and I have not made any final 1200 UT-FS curves.)
