Yes, the ink positions are different.

I really don't recommend trying to re-use a CIS, but I know some do so
successfully.  It's hard to get all of the ink out of the sponge in the
cartridge.

If you only want the MIS original quad warm tone, and you have a workflow
that produces prints you like, why change?

The variable-tone inkset is for those who like the option of choosing what
tone they want.  I like cool for my landscapes and warm for my old photo
reproductions, for example.  The MIS VM approach is also the only pigmented
quad (that is pre-mixed) that can give you neutral tones, as far as I know.
