Great, I didn't realise that. I was on the verge of buying a 9000 a couple of
months ago, but had to put the plan on hold as I simply don't have the
necessary wedge of cash right now. I suspect that the 8000/9000 could be the
best all-rounder, but it would be good to verify that.

They also have the Nikon 8000 (or perhaps they have upgraded it to the 9000
now).  I have used the Imacon 848 and love the results with colour slide film
(I don't do too much with B&W film) which I then convert to B&W.  Since I
can't justify the cost of the 848 (or even one of its cheaper cousins) I am
trying to buy a 9000. (I need both 35mm and 645)
