Windows or Mac? What paper are you using and what software?
A starting point would be to select a different ('false') paper setting -
perhaps transparency - so that less ink would be laid down, or try a
different paper.
As to another printer, a good solution would be using Roy Harrington's
QuadToneRIP with one of the printers it supports - see the website at
http://harrington.com/QuadToneRIP.html
For Windows you can use QTRgui by Stephen Billard
