Digital BW, The Print

I've installed the Quad Tone Rip 2.1 on my mac OS 10.3.6 I'm having problem 
when installing the profiles. I have the Epson 2100 connected through 
FireWire and turned on, but the installer can't find the printer. Does it 
mean I have to use an USB cabel to use this software?
