Digital BW, The Print

I have just started using the QTRip PC 2.1b with QTRgui 2.1.5 and am 
very impressed with the prints that I have made on my Epson 2100 
printer. 

But I get a smear or group of short streaks in the end corners of the 
prints, abount 1 cm long and .5 cm wide starting a few mm inside the 
side edge and about 1 cm from the end edge. If I print direct from 
PhotoShop using it's print dialog, there are no problems with either 
B&W or color prints.

I have tried to fiddle with the default settings of the printer
driver to lower the ink flow but to no avail.

Any ideas or pointers would be appreciated.
