Scott/Steve, if I may, my web site has an in-depth explanation of 
Photoshop Curves.  Go to http://www.zuberphotographics.com/, click on 
Quick Picks and then click on Curves.  Once I started using Curves, I 
find myself using it more often than Levels.  However, the Levels 
histogram is hard to beat.
