Hello, Bill: Most of my time is invested in taking photos as opposed to
processing and printing. I'm old and cranky and impatient, so I use the
Epson 2200 (I don't print all that large), with OEM UC inks and the
ImagePrint 6 RIP, with Photorag 308 paper. It is fast, easy and reliable.
It is essential to calibrate your monitor every week or so, so that your
print looks like the monitor within reason. I keep a Canon printer for
glossy photos (the 2200 doesn't do well with that paper). I had to make
some transfer curves to get the Canon to print well. You could also keep an
Epson 1280 for that, though you would need a separate ImagePrint license for
the second printer ($150 I think). Just my take. Don't know about
platforms, though my preacher says that XP is the one true way for mankind
(just kidding.....).
Regards,
