In this case a good nozzle check may still give you banding. Save your nozzle check pattern while you still have banding and compare it to the version after the banding is cleared up to see the difference. The first will be kind of fuzzy which indicates some deflection though small of one or more jets which are now partially blocked by ink residue.
 
Head cleaning will not clear up this sort of banding. You need to employ the "windex in the printhead cap soak" prior to head cleaning to really get rid of this type of banding.
