RE: [Digital BW] Epson C86 and Faint streaking in the first 2-3 inches of print

2005-02-24 by Paul Roark

Phil,

Is the nozzle check perfect? It is odd that it would do the same thing on a
second print with a nozzle problem, however. So this is probably not what
is going on.

The first few inches may be not advancing properly with just the main feed
rollers. Perhaps once the paper is also being pulled by the exit rollers
the problem disappears. This might indicate that the main feed rollers are
not doing the job for some reason. Has some troublesome paper been used
lately, like Crane Museo?

Subject: [Digital BW] Epson C86 and Faint streaking in the first 2-3 inches
of print

Hi,

I am using Epson Enhanced Matte paper with my new Epson C86 printer. I began
with the MIS Eboni Black ink but switched back to the Epson cartridge to
narrow down the variables to get to the source of this problem: though most
of the print looks ok, in the first few inches of the print there is some
very light streaking - faint lines of lighter ink density. As one would
imagine, these lines are visible only in areas of mid to darker tone in the
print. I have tried cleaning the heads several times but the streaks remain.
I also thought that because the problem was in the first few inches of the
print, perhaps the printer needed to "warm up" and get the ink flowing, and
so I tried making two prints in a row. That did not help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!
