13x19 Print Exchage

2001-12-01 by Steadman Uhlich

I am not on your 13x19 exchange, but I do have a suggestion for you all based on real world experience...

I suggest you all standardize on using a shipping tube provided by Fedex or Airborne to ship your prints rolled up...to the exchange and then the exchange coordinator can just send your prints back in your own tube (assuming it is in good enough shape) or if your tube needs replacement (they do get damaged too) the coordinator can get a good tube for free from Fedex or Airborne. The tubes are free for all by the way. And they are the best way to ship a large document. They may seem too large in diameter for a single print...but when you roll up 30 prints you will appreciate the larger diameter. The Triangular shape tubes are very sturdy too.

In contrast, large thin "flats" commonly get bent out of shape during transit. I have damaged 13x19 prints that were carefully packed in bubble and sturdy boxes...and still got crushed/crimped/wrinkled in transit across country. The large flat thin packages are very prone to distortion and compression damage as they get loaded with hundreds of pounds of stuff on top of them in large air freight bins.

The shipping tube suggestions are also part of a good thread that appeared on the PiezoBW list a few months ago.

Good luck with your exchange...I wish I was part of it.

  Hi Shilesh,

This is my third try for getting on a print exchange and I am very
pleased to be included with you all. I've just ordered a couple of
  hundred 13X19 inch bags from:

  http://www.clearbags.com

They seem to be the best I've found on line.

I'll check the database for whatever guidelines have been posted for
  print exchanges.

  Yours,

  Frank Ward
