I'm very surprised to hear this. I recently bought a Powershot Pro-
1, and the software with it not only gives you 48-bit tiffs, it does 
a very good job of it, though its a bit clunkier than ACR, 
Rawshooter essentials, and C1, all of which I tried. My opinion (and 
I'm sure a lot of people wil hit the ceiling in indignation at the 
claim) is that the Canon software is better than all except C1 at 
giving you a noise-free grainless image, (and is equal to the latter)
which the Pro-1 output needs much more than the Rebel XT. And I 
think C1 is too steenkin' expensive considering how many good 
options there are!

Got a look at your Tuscon shot, absolutely georgeous! I'm assuming 
that's a scan from a print?
