I found that there is a 16 bit setting.

Rawshooter has the camera lens and shooting information.  Have you found
that in your Canon program?

I'm thinking CS2 with it's raw support may be a good way to go also.  If it
does a good job, I'd like to have as few applications I need to juggle as
possible.

No, it's just a small version of the file.
