Digital BW, The Print

I just downloaded Harrington's QTR with the gui front end.  I have an
Epson 4000 and am trying to figure out how to get good, deep blacks
approaching selenium tone.  I am running windows XPPRO and Adobe CS. 
I started out trying Epson Premium Luster with the Ultrachrome inks
and the tone is very brown and not good blacks.  Also, I do all of my
work in 16 bit color (I scan in my b&w negatives as if they were
color).  When I am ready to print I convert to Lab color and flatten
the file.  When I convert to a TIFF file and 8 bit, QTR will not print
the file.  The thumbnail looks red.  I have to convert to gray scale
and I believe I lose a lot of information. Is there anyway to print
from color files and is there anyway to print 16 bit?  Thanks.
