Steve, I find Velvet Fine Art one of the best matte papers I have profiled for Dmax, whether for color or B&W. I can typically hit a Dmax of 1.72 (L* of about 15), which is great for a matte paper. Compared to good glossy or luster media, it comes up weak, of course.
