Re: [Digital BW] EPSON 4800 ?

2005-05-09 by steve_bye

There was a very brief article in Shutterbug magazine, so the new printers
are for real. I think it was the June issue, which was not on the stands
last week, but I think was mailed to subscribers. Rumor says the
introduction is in May.

A copy of the 4800 Reference Manual was available on the UK Epson site, but
it has now been removed.

I'm pretty much an Epson junky, and have owned all their top consumer
printers since the PhotoEX. I guess I missed the 1200. I'm somewhat
skeptical about the new 4800/7800/9800 printers though. You still need to
swap out the photo black and matte black inks, and there is no gloss
optimizer, so glossy prints are questionable. Maybe the new K3 inks will fix
bronzing and gloss differential, even without gloss optimizer

It's ironic that Epson has chosen to attack B&W printing with this new K3
inset in the 2400/4800/7800/9800, since B&W is one of the things I am very
happy with on the 2200. Maybe the three black inks will give us a better
Dmax. That would be very nice.

the rumour and pre-announcement stage !? Just was on the way to buy
4000 when the dealer told me to wait until end of month. (Singapore).
