The 7800/9800 have new head - the same as 4000 and maybe new head 
transport construction -> faster and better print, no vertical 
banding?

The switching of Matte Black and Photo black is not so expensive - 
check the archive of EpsonWideFormat mailing list and you will find 
the recipe.
