Epson claims that it hanles 8x10, though I haven't used it for 8x10s
myself.

Peter (and anyone else interested in scanning, especially large format film)
might find an article by Ted Harris in the current issue of "View Camera"
magazine interesting and informative. The article includes actual ppi, dmax,
and bit depth figures (as opposed to manufacturers' specs) for five scanners
ranging in price from the Epson 4870 to the Imacon 949 and the results of
extensive group testing of these scanners plus other information about
scanner construction in general and its effect on quality of output. The
magazine is available at Barnes and Noble and probably Borders.

I don't think the 4990 Epson quite handles 8X10, but it does handle 5X7.

You can wet mount, reportedly gaining sharpness (from better focus)
and Dmax as well as vanishing dust and scratches. You probably know
how Aztek (browse) does this for your Nikon.

I'm about to start wet mounting 6X9, just for grins.

The Yahoo forums are

for wet mounting (Luis Fernandez is an expert, makes 4X5 wet mounting
kits and may make 5X7 on special order)

and

(for 4870/4990)
